Frequently Asked Questions
How does custom work, work?
So… you’re looking for custom chainstitch embroidery! You’ve come to the right place.
You contact me via the contact form, including what type of work you’d like done and a brief description of your idea.
I respond to you (typically within 24-48 hours). We chat about your idea and I give you a general quote. If you’d like me to design something, you pay your $50 design fee. If you have a PDF version of your art, I send you a quote and you send me a 50% deposit and your garment (more on garment types below).
I put together a design based on what we discussed. I send you a few options, we make some minor changes (or none at all), and I send you the final version of the design for approval. We discuss how much the design will cost and I give you a final quote. There is a list below with general price ranges for different types of designs. After you have approved your design, you send me a 50% deposit.
While we are in the design process, you send me your garment. Once I receive your garment and you have approved the final version of your design, I can begin stitching. Turnaround timeframes vary depending on the season and begin once I’ve received your garment. Currently as of November 2024, turnaround times are 6-8 weeks for large or complex orders, and 2-4 for simple script. If you have a Christmas gift in mind, orders should be placed by November 15th for guaranteed arrival by Christmas.
I stitch your garment. You send me the outstanding balance. I ship your garment to you via USPS. I am not responsible for any items lost/damaged by USPS or stolen from your porch.
You love and wear your garment!
What material can you embroider for me?
Preferred materials include: cotton, jean, & canvas. Anything without stretch and without thick layers of stuffing in between stitch up most easily and look the best. I will not embroider leather or any stretchy fabrics. For those fabrics, I suggest having a patch made.
If you are looking for a jacket suggestion, I recommend denim, RedKap, or a similar shop jacket.
Are you available for live chain stitching events?
YES!!! I am available to live chainstitch at your event, whether it is a baby shower, wedding, or corporate event, contact me via the event inquiry form and let’s see how we can add a unique aspect to your event.
How do live chainstitch embroidery events work?
If you’re looking to hire Foolish Daughter to provide complimentary chainstitch embroidery for your event, I will pack up my machine and travel to your event where I will provide live, on-site embroidery for you and your guests at an hourly rate. You’ll choose an item for me to stitch for your guests- some examples include bandanas, canvas tote bags, onesies, caps… there are so many possibilities! Other options include providing complimentary stitching on a purchase from your store, such as denim items.
Please fill out the event inquiry form for more information.
What design can you embroider for me?
Any design you have the license or permission to use, something you’ve created, or something we create together.

How do I care for my chainstitched garment?
Unless you have specifically asked for me to use wool thread, you can hand wash your garment in cold water and hang to dry. I do recommend dry cleaning for best results. Garments with wool thread are dry clean ONLY.
